The Many Different Reasons For A Employee Background Check

Employee Background Check

If you have ever applied for a job and been called back for an interview, then there is a good chance that you have heard of an employee background check. Pretty much this is a way for employers to find out if you were telling the truth on your application. Now, if you are one of those people that do not believe in lying, then you have nothing to worry about. However, a lot of people in the world do not share your same view. They think more around the lines of what people don't know, wont hurt them. In the end, the people that live by those guidelines are really only hurting themselves. If a company finds out that you have lied on your application, you can pretty much kiss that job goodbye. So in the end, you are really only hurting yourself by lying.

So how many people lie on their applications? Well it is said that more than 45% of people usually put down untruthful information. When you go by that stat, you can see why businesses run those checks. If you are going to hire someone to help you run your business, you want to make sure it's someone that you can trust. Many people tend to think that these types of checks can only see if you are lying about ever being convicted of a crime. However, they can also tell whether you are lying about what college you said that you graduated from. These reports could also confirm or deny the information you have given about your previous employers (if any). As you can see, these types of checks give out a lot more information than what you might think they do. Of course, the employers are not the only ones that have rights when it comes to having these reports done, you have rights as well.

When an employer is planning on having a online background check or a criminal bacgkround report done on you, they should notify you first. Most of the time they should ask for our written authorization as well. Also, if an employer chooses not to hire you because of something that they find in the report, they must give you notice of why they chose not to hire you. This is so you have the right to dispute any or all information that comes back in the report. As you can see, these reports can actually be helpful to you as well. You would be surprised at the type of information people find out about themselves whenever they have these checks done. Just keep in mind that you should never lie on your application. I can not stress that enough. Even if you have something that is not good, you still may get the job if you are up front with them about it. After all, everyone is going to make some type of mistake in their life. However, if you lie to them about your application, then you are definitely not going to get the job.

Whenever you go to get a new job you should not be upset if they ask to do a background check on you. After all, they are just looking out for the company. If you were in their shoes, you would want a check done on them as well. If this was a perfect world, then no one would ever lie on their application, and everyone would be happy. However, this is far from being a perfect world, and people get into doing things that they should not do. You can not blame the companies for wanting to do these checks on people before they hire them. After all, the amount of people that lie on their application is ever growing. At some point these companies have to be able to see if you are telling the truth or not. Sure, they can call the people you list on your application to check the information, but it's easy to get your friends to cover for you. The truth of the matter is that companies need these reports so that they can make an informed choice on who they hire. The best person for the job should always be hired. I mean, you would be upset if you lost a job because someone lied on their application to sound better than you.
